Ryan Townsend Strand- vocal ensemble

Ryan Townsend Strand (Minnetonka, MN), 26, tenor, is a student of mezzo-soprano Theresa Brancaccio at Northwestern University where he received his Master’s of Voice & Opera. Strand recently was a featured soloist under the direction of conductor Paul Agnew with Music of the Baroque in Chicago. A featured soloist in San Francisco’s American Bach Academy, Strand performed the Mass in b minor last August. Recently he was seen onstage in the chorus of Chicago Opera Theatre’s production of Lucio Silla, as well as their production of Bloch’s Macbeth last fall.  Other opera credits include playing Laurie in American composer Mark Adamo’s Little Women, Nerone in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea and Al Joad in Ricky Ian Gordon’s The Grapes of Wrath. He made his professional Chicago opera debut in Haymarket Opera’s production of Scarlatti’s Gli equivoci nel sembiante. Most impressively Strand performed his first Evangelist in Bach’s St. John Passion this past fall at the newly dedicated Galvin Recital Hall on Northwestern’s lakefront campus. Strand sings with the contemporary vocal ensemble The Crossing in Philadelphia, the Hollywood Master Chorale and Areté Vocal Ensemble in Los Angeles. Locally Strand performs with Music of the Baroque, the Chicago Bach Project and the Grant Park Festival Chorus.
